Algarve boasts 85 beaches with Blue Flags

Algarve 85 beaches blue flags

The Algarve continues to be the Portuguese region flying the most Blue Flags, with 85 beaches receiving the honour this year – three more than in 2014.

The news was announced by José Archer, president of the Blue Flag association, during a press conference in Lisbon on Thursday (April 30).

Sagres’ Praia do Beliche is a first-timer, while Praia dos Alemães (Albufeira), Praia Grande (Ferragudo) and Tonel (Sagres) have been awarded blue flags once again.
Praia do Pego Fundo in Alcoutim was the only beach in the Algarve to lose its status this year.

All four Algarve marinas – Vilamoura, Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos – will also be flying Blue Flags again.

On a national level, 299 beaches and 15 marinas will boast Blue Flags.
